On Being THIS Happy

What in your life makes you THIS HAPPY? Level: “Noah squealing with joy as he takes the biggest bite of his ice cream sundae happy.”

That happy.

I live for those “Mommy, this is the best time of my LIFE!” squeals, cheeks in a perma-grin, running around days with my sweet boy. This age is MAGIC, and his happiness is contagious. I was thinking about this happiness the other day while watching Noah devour his ice cream and dance around the front seat of the (parked) car. He was so carefree and just so, so freaking happy.

Like, what makes ME that happy?

Mine would be, a really really good meal around a table with good friends or family that lasts extra long. Where you’re laughing so hard and no one gets up for hours and it’s just one of those perfect nights. Lots of cheese and meat and wine would be there too.

When I run full speed into the ocean. Arms in the air and just crash into the water. I will float and just let all the worries wash away. I truly think I was a mermaid at one point in my life.

Also when I feel like my little man is this happy. And the pride in myself I feel when I feel like I have done a good job at providing a space for him to be exactly who he are and I see him experiencing deep joy. That is the best. Parenting is the hardest thing and I feel like I’m failing daily. So when there are those moments where you’re overwhelmed with their happiness, and feeling like you’re doing something right- that’s doubly awesome.

Another- the first sip of a REALLY good iced coffee. I love iced coffee.

And lastly, at least for today, when you have a really big chunk of time to do NOTHING and there is no plan in place for the time. When you’re a parent this is rare- there is always something that needs to get done. But sometimes in the rare occasion we’ll have a lazy day and just do absolutely nothing. Those times are so refreshing and FUN.

How about you? What makes you happy?
